I just picked up a new insight regarding my MM device. I had it sent back to have the clearance narrowed down to 1/4 inch on my biggest base ring (which measures 1 7/8 inches). Upon receiving it, I checked it against my smaller base ring and noticed that the hole for the locking post remained at the same distance from the ring itself. It turns out MM modifies the gap by tilting the locking post up or down to change its angle relative to the base ring, measuring that clearance right at the bottom of the cage. I had wrongly assumed they moved the hole position for the lock.
Regarding how it feels while wearing it, I can definitely say there is no difference with the smaller gap. Prior to this modification, the base ring felt a bit loose, and after the change, it remains just as loose. So, I suppose I’ll stick with my 1 3/4 inch base ring instead. The reason I bring this up is that someone might be able to perform this adjustment themselves at home if they have a vice capable of holding the base ring securely without scratching it.
