Hello everyone. I know this question has probably come up before, but I’ll keep my argument short. It’s actually a somewhat long post for me, so please bear with me. I find the section titles completely confusing and I’ve been around here for some time now. Newcomers have no idea; they just dump everything in the first section they see – which is why you get so many threads starting in what we call the ‘introductions’ but should really be the ‘foyer’. Sorry, but who actually has a foyer? We don’t. We have a hall (which is essentially a small corridor), where we store our coats and bikes. But here it’s called a foyer, and you’re expected to remember its name and purpose. This applies to all the other sections too; you must remember what they are for because these names aren’t very intuitive or descriptive. It is true that the section names relate somewhat to their function, and I’m sure the goal was to be evocative. But the result is just confusion, bewilderment, even obfuscation, when a simple word like ‘confuse’ would do perfectly well. For example… The tower contains the vet’s house, the monks’ breakfast room, and the choir boys’ quaking chamber… Then there’s the boudoir, divided into the powder room, the little girls’ powder room, and the keep-your-powder-dry room… It’s just a bit…ok. very obfuscatory, sorry, confusing. (;) ) Can we talk about using more sensible names for these areas to help us out? Introductions. Announcements. General chat. And so on. Chastity: Male devices Female devices Worship: Toesucking Grovelling Abject grovelling Etc. I’m sure you get the general idea. I’m not suggesting we reorganize the sections entirely, just perhaps add these sensible titles right after their current fancy names? I do like the existing names and don’t think they should disappear completely or at all, but I certainly don’t believe they are easy for the whole membership to navigate. Adding some practical titles as an ‘Also’ rather than replacing them might be a good idea. If this proposal gets shot down, so be it, but it’s worth putting out there, and here it is.
