This is another question that those who browse my website often ask me… Q: Hello. I realize this must be a very common query, but how do you suggest measuring for the base ring size? Currently, I am recovering from several tries wearing knock-off holy trainer cages as trials, using their largest (2”) rings. The problem I faced, aside from sharp seams and cheap material, was that the fit kept my testicles quite red, and the pressure made any contact with fabric uncomfortable. I could manage 24-hour stretches in it, but now paying for them with friction burns. I’ve tried using string (with zip ties to prevent stretching) and came up with lengths suggesting diameters between 2.5 and 2.75 inches. This seems so large when all mass-produced cages cap at 2 inches. What do you think? A: My preferred method for finding your correct base ring size is buying some cheap test rings, then identifying the one you can wear comfortably for a day or two. Your body’s response and feedback will give you everything needed to determine the right size. If discomfort occurs, the ring is too small. Test rings from this company match closely in thickness and shape to my own rings, which is very important. Rings on devices like the Holy Trainer differ enough in thickness and shape that they fit, feel, and wear differently than mine. Because of these differences, a 2” ring from such a device won’t translate exactly to how one of my 2” rings will fit you. I suggest buying two or three test rings in sizes closest to what you think you need. If you plan on ordering a fully customizable cage like the Contender, it’s also wise to buy some test rings that slip over your penis only. They’ll give you a good idea of which size cage to order.

I’m wearing a 1 3/4” ring, which has been my most comfortable size practically since day one. However, I find it too loose when conditions are warmer (weather changes, physical activity, showering.) I’ve also lost weight/tightened up physically. It doesn’t fall off, but slides down and isn’t entirely secure (I don’t mean like trying to make it “inescapable”) I’m worried that dropping to 1 5/8” would be too large a jump downwards, especially at night. That’s a 3 mm difference, which in my experience feels significant. Does anyone have experience with this? I’m cautious because the Contender is amazingly comfortable and unobtrusive. I don’t want to lose that comfort. Any feedback is appreciated. @Peter Rabbit (tagging you as the resident expert in MCN!)

Congrats on losing weight! Mark made me a cage ring at an 1/16” intermediate step size upon request. Email him and ask if he would make you a 1-11/16” base ring. He also crafted me a 1-3/4” base ring that was round by a full 1/8” rather than the usual 1/16”. (This didn’t change the area or circumference, just the distance between bottom of the cage ring and base ring) Both were not standard web form orders but direct requests via email. If you know what you need, just ask! Yes, going from 14/8” to 13/8” reduces area to 86%. But taking a half-step from 28/16” to 27/16” reduces area only slightly to 93%. While I can wear a 1-5/8” ring for short periods, it eventually causes skin problems. 1/8” can be a large step! Mark’s been great with custom requests. Don’t hesitate.

@Naljeans Congratulations on losing weight. As both you and Peter Rabbit mention, an inch can potentially be too big of a jump in ring size. While the ring sizes offered on my website do work for most people, some require a base ring sized between the standard 1/8 inch increments. If you'd like a 1-11/16" base ring you may order it directly through the website by purchasing one of the available sizes, then placing a note in the 'notes section' during checkout. Alternatively, I can send you an invoice if you contact me directly. Cheers, Mark
