I don’t travel often enough to take any risks. Airport security varies depending on the scanning method used at each location. At some airports I might just walk right through, others require a frisking, and one place did a full body scan. If you seem anxious, they can sense it, suspect something is wrong, and decide to search you. My advice: use plastic locks, snap a photo of the device, and email that picture to your keyholder while at the airport. You could also break the lock, pack the cage in your checked luggage during the flight, and then reattach it with a new lock once you land (if time is tight). Text your keyholder when the plane touches down, head straight to the restroom after collecting your bags, put on a fresh lock, send another photo. When returning home, just do things backward. The keyholder will spot the same plastic lock as you prepare to check your bags and understand that you were “kept” while away. Just my two cents.
