Vasectomy - what kind of anesthetics did they use?

I hope this isn’t straying too far from the main topic. Since I’ve been in chastity and our relationship has really improved, I decided to gift my wife a vasectomy that will spare her body further harm. I went to what’s considered the second-best clinic in Latin America. The staff mentioned that “most of my patients prefer to go under.” That comment made me shudder because all the articles I’ve read suggest local anesthetic is standard. Has anyone here had this done? Was it a full general or just local for you? Would you choose the same method again? Thanks
