Taking off a solid base ring while erect

Summary: What’s the best way to handle the base ring once your Keyholder lets you out? I’m thinking about buying a custom steel chastity device, but I have some questions regarding the size of the base ring.

1. My main concern is being stuck with the ring on while erect.
2. From what I’ve read online, it seems the base ring needs to be large enough to permit blood flow during an erection yet small enough to keep the device secure.
