Intolerable agony wearing a Jailbird

Just picked up an MM jailbird with an oval base ring. I also own a steelheart. The steelheart had a split ring that caused pinching, but was otherwise comfortable. The jailbird could be okay if I can manage to stay seated throughout the day. I didn’t shave for the jailbird, though I did for the steelheart. Is shaving necessary?
