Having worn a CB3K for eight years (with heavy use last year), I feel it’s time to switch to something more practical for 24/7 wear. The 3K has served its main purpose well, but tasks like showering and cleaning the device force me to take it off too frequently. My wife has given her approval for me to find a steel cage-style unit so she doesn’t have to hand over the key as often for cleaning. Based on what I know now, the Birdcage is leading the pack.
I’ve researched my needs and considered cost alongside hygiene. The Jailbird seems perfect for my requirements, but its price tag hasn’t been easy to justify to her. Plus, I’ve heard it isn’t built for a grower like myself. Conversely, the Birdcage offers room to expand, features an open design that aids cleanliness, and is very budget-friendly.
I’ve scoured this forum and gathered some info, but I still have questions for anyone with long-term Birdcage experience:
- Listings often say they are stainless steel. Is that accurate? It seems surprisingly cheap compared to other stainless options.
- Regarding the price point again: is the quality good enough for semi-permanent wear like a Jailbird? Specifically, is the metal smooth without burrs that might irritate or cut skin? Are there any pinch points to worry about?
- The Birdcage looks quite long. I’m a grower, but not sure if I need all that extra length. One reviewer on Extreme Restraints customized his by cutting it below the base ring, removing some length, drilling new holes in the base ring, and using epoxy to reattach it. I have the tools for this too. If anyone has advice on this customization or can help me contact him, I’d appreciate it.
- Various companies produce these devices. Prices range from $20 on Amazon to $70 during sales. Does anyone know which manufacturer makes the most authentic Birdcage? This will influence my purchase decision.
- Any other general concerns with the Birdcage?
That covers everything for now. Thanks in advance.
