She wants to speak to my last keyholder before she agrees to anything

Six weeks of talking to someone about holding my key. Sensible person, has not pushed anything, and I like her. Last night she said that before agreeing to anything she would want to speak to the person who held for me last year.

My first reaction was that this is completely fair, because I know she is being careful. My second reaction, about an hour later, was that she is asking to contact someone I parted with awkwardly, to discuss me, in a conversation I would not be in.

Is this a normal thing people do? I have never heard of it and I do not know whether I am being precious or whether the request is odd.

It happens and it is more common at the more careful end of things. What I would say is that it is a request, not a requirement, and how she takes a no is the actual information here. I ask about someone's history myself, but I ask them, not a third party who is not in the room to be questioned back.
