Ear piercing was my first. Naturally enough! A friend did them in our college dorm using just a needle and an ice cube for numbing. I only have one hole per ear, never felt the need to add more.
By 2000, I decided to treat myself to a navel piercing after losing quite a bit of weight. Healing was a slog—almost a year—and it eventually migrated out. I removed it years ago and don’t miss it at all; seeing Britney Spears with hers actually made me like mine less for a while.:(
I’ve seen plenty of variations at naturist gatherings. One couple stood out with matching “his and hers” gold ring nipple piercings, which inspired me to finally get mine done. It took forever to work up the courage, partly because my navel had been so troublesome in comparison; nipples seemed easy by contrast. I got them pierced in 2006 and switched from steel captive bead rings (16g, 1/2”) to gold ones a year later. They are 14 gauge with a 3/4” diameter. The salesperson advised against the 1” size he suggested as too large.
Ab got his left nipple pierced on my 50th birthday. He had it redone as a double piercing using a straight bar, but the technician placed it crookedly, making it look poor quality until he removed it relatively quickly. Years later, he did the right one, though healing issues forced him to remove that one too. His experience of three attempts with mixed results makes him somewhat hesitant about getting a PA.:D
It’s funny how strongly people react to piercings; many have negative views. If you dislike it, just take it out. It’s far less permanent than tattoos, which most people accept easily.
What other piercing stories do we have here? D
